The word "mentor" originated with Athena, Greek goddess of wisdom. In Homer's Odyssey, she assumed the form of a wise and learned man named Mentor and was entrusted with the education of Odysseus' son, Telemachus.

Do you have a class project or research assignment that you need help with?

What if you could "talk" with a mentor who was an expert in the area that you are studying?

You can with an E-Mentor. E-mentors are like the original Mentor, but they will communicate with you through e-mail. They are professionals who will answer your questions and help you research a specific classroom project. You can send them a message from your classroom e-mail address and they will respond. We have lots of mentors who are willing to help. They might be scientists, engineers, software developers, technicians, doctors, and many more.

Here are some projects that e-mentors have helped with.

  • A web designer helped a high school student create a multimedia web page.

  • High school students planned out a complete nutritional program with the help of nurses and dieticians.

  • A meteorologist helped a fifth grader learn about the weather.

  • Seventh graders studied countries of the world with the help of people who lived in those countries.

  • Scientists from a research institute helped a student learn about cellular aging.

  • An engineer helped a student build a remote control lawn mower.

  • Professionals from the EPA helped students understand about water conservation.

What is your project?

If you need an e-mentor for your work, talk to your teacher and complete the request form
